France fans have heavily criticised Ibrahima Konaté after he appeared to cover his face and eyes during his journey to the national team camp.

The 25-year-old is part of the squad for France’s Nations League clashes with Israel and Belgium, and arrived at Clerkfontein wearing a green hoodie that was zipped up to hide his face.

Konaté walked up to the photographers before laughing and saying, “You don’t know who I am, do you? Take a guess,” and then pulled down his zipper to reveal himself.

Many fans disagreed with this, with some tweeting: “Stop, this is ridiculous. We need to stop talking about this and get back to playing football… What is the priority? A fashion show or a football game?”

Another commented: “Maybe we should go back to the old style of mandatory suits. It’s getting ridiculous, especially since the results on the pitch have been so bad.”

Another fan commented: “We are far from the serious Sir Alex Ferguson era. In his era this guy would have been axed. It’s crazy these days. The captain isn’t here because it’s not an important game.”

“We are going downhill and it’s really starting to Promotion ufabet affect the image of the team. This is not a fashion week,” another commented, while “The French national team is an institution, it has an image that must be respected.”
